Project Instructions

Step 1 Use Scissors to trim sheet of copy paper to 7½"x10". Help child select photo that will provide inspiration for a story. Position photo on paper where desired and lightly trace around it. Ask the child to write his/her story on copy paper, without writing in space reserved for photo. To help child get started, ask questions such as, “Who is in the photo with you?” and “What are you doing?”. For best results, allow child to write without correction of spelling, punctuation, penmanship, etc. Strive to help child capture the essence of the story and excitement of creative writing. Sometimes children like to add drawings to help illustrate stories. Note: If child notices mistakes and wants to change sentences around, simply cut apart lines and piece as needed, using Elmer's® Washable School Glue Stick.

Step 2 If desired, mount photo on scrapbook paper by cutting paper ½" larger than photo. (This becomes a ruler-use lesson.) Use Washable School Glue Stick to center and mount photo onto scrapbook paper.

Step 3 Position story paper and mounted photo onto cardstock. Use Glue Stick to attach. When dry, insert story page in clear page protector.

Step 4 To attach ribbons to notebook ring, tie overhand knots as follows: fold ribbon in half, bring fold up through notebook ring, insert ribbon ends through loop and pull. To keep ribbons from loosening, squeeze a little Elmer's® Washable School Glue underneath knot and pull until knot is snug against ring.

Step 5 Optional: For long-term storage, place story pages in binder of your choice.
