Material List

  • Plaid® FolkArt® Acrylic Paint- Licorice, Wicker White, Lemon Custard, Patina and Hot Pink
  • Plaid Mod Podge® Sparkle- 8 oz.
  • Styrofoam ball- 6"
  • Glitter- Silver
  • Scrapbook Paper- Silver
  • Artifacts Inc. Crafty Paper Cones
  • Wooden Rectangle- 5-3/8"
  • Silver Star Garland
  • Glue Gun and Glue
  • Liner Brush
  • 3/4" Flat Brush
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

Project Instructions

Step: 1

Cover the silver scrapbook paper with the Sparkle Mod Podge and add silver glitter. Allow to dry. Cut 1/2" squares.

Step: 2

Hot glue squares to ball, starting in the middle and then continue to add layers at the top and bottom of center. Leave a small section untouched at the bottom to adhere the cone in a later step.

Step: 3

Paint the cone Patina and allow to dry.

Step: 4

Paint the 4" box bottom with Hot Pink and allow to dry.

Step: 5

Paint the 6" box bottom with Lemon Custard and allow to dry.

Step: 6

Paint the tops of the boxes and the wooden rectangle Wicker White. Allow to dry.

Step: 7

To make the checkerboard pattern on the box tops, use ruler and mark off 1/2" squares. Paint alternating squares Licorice. Allow to dry.

Step: 8

Use Licorice and the pattern provided to paint 1985 on the white wooden rectangle. Highlight the numbers with Wicker White.

Step: 9

Add two coats of Sparkle Mod Podge to the cone, boxes, lids and the "1985" sign. Allow to dry.

Step: 10

Hot glue the lids to boxes and then hot glue the boxes together as shown in photo. Hot glue the cone to the top of the 4" box and then glue the ball to the top of the cone.

Step: 11

Wrap the star garland around the whole piece.


Create extra disco balls of varying sizes to decorate the party room.
