Project Instructions

Step 1 The size of your bumblebee will depend on what size cardboard tube you use for the body. For this project, a gift wrap cardboard tube was used (which is smaller than a paper towel roll.)

Step 2 To create the tail end of the bumblebee, snip about ½" into one end of tube at about ¼" intervals.

Step 3 Use toothpick to apply glue to cut end. Press inward to create point.

Step 4 Use strips of masking tape to hold in place while drying. When glue has dried, remove tape.

Step 5 Snip bandanas at ¾" intervals and rip into strips. Iron flat.

Step 6 Glue end of strip onto end of tube. Wrap around tube, gluing at intervals. Continue gluing strips onto tube until completely covered.

Step 7 Sharpen tip of dowel stick with pencil sharpener. Glue strips of bandana around dowel stick. Make small slit into side of body with craft knife. Dip sharpened end of dowel into glue and press into slit. Let glue dry.

Step 8 Add barley into body tube.

Step 9 Paint wooden bead yellow. Let dry. Glue bead onto end of tube.

Step 10 Measure and cut approximately 1¼" ring from cardboard tube for each wing. Wrap each wing with strip of bandana. Glue to hold in place. Glue wings onto body.

Step 11 Glue rhinestones in place for eyes. Draw nose and mouth with permanent marking pen. Tie additional bandana strips onto wand.
