Project Instructions
Step: 1
Clean the glass surface with rubbing alcohol or window cleaner to remove any grease or fingerprints.
Step: 2
With a soft leaded pencil. Draw stripes around the vase, similar to the photo. To draw straight lines, fill the vase with water and trace along the water line at various levels.
Step: 3
Load the brush with a generous amount of #20 Veil White, and paint the upper wide striped section around the entire vase and 1-2 of the small sections.
Step: 4
Next, paint the lower wide stripe with #19 Earth Brown and paint the skinny stripe above it in #17 Amber.
Step: 5
Finish with several stripes of the Frost medium. Note: the Frost medium is clear upon application, and dries with a semi-opaque frost.
Step: 6
It is not necessary to bake the vase for permanence, if it will not be placed in a dishwasher. For baking: allow it to dry for 24 hours, place it in a cool oven on the middle oven rack, set the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the temperature has been reached, set the timer for 40 minutes. After baking is complete, turn off the oven and open the oven door to allow the piece to cool down gradually. Once cool, remove the piece from the oven.
Step: 7
For lead application, measure around each stripe and add ½” inch to the length, then cut the lead strips with a razor knife. The lead may be used in the double ¼ “ thickness, or it may be sliced apart to measure 1/8” width.
Step: 8
Remove the self adhesive backing and carefully press the lead over the pencil lines between each of the painted stripes. Overlap the lead at the joining point. Press the lead firmly all around the vase by rolling the vase on its side to further secure the lead to the glass.
