Project Instructions

Sand plate well; use tack cloth to remove dust. Apply Multi-Purpose Sealer to entire plate. Allow to dry thoroughly. Lightly sand again.

Transfer pattern.

Base coat outer edge and back of plate Snow White.

Mix Snow White and Slate Grey 70% to 30% and base coat inside of plate. Stipple a few Snow White clouds in background around umbrella. Base coat the bottom portion of umbrella Snow White.

Base coat birds Spa Blue.

Base coat bird feet and beaks Moon Yellow.

Base coat bow tie Pistachio Mint.

Dry brush center of bird’s faces, tummy, and wings Snow White. Float Snow White highlights on bird’s hair and head, sides of body, feet, beaks, and wings.

Mix Bahama Blue and Spa Blue 1:1 and shade bird's bodies, head, hair, and wings.

Deepen shading on bird’s bodies, head, hair, and wings with Bahama Blue.

Use Poodleskirt Pink to base coat top half of umbrella and to dry brush bird’s cheeks, center of feet, and tummy area.

With Bubblegum Pink, shade top portion of umbrella. Dry brush Bubblegum Pink to deepen shading on cheeks and tummy on birds.

Base coat umbrella top knob and bottom of handle Bubblegum Pink.

Base coat large dots on umbrella and float to shade bottom portion of umbrella with Moon Yellow. Float Snow White tops on Moon Yellow dots.

Float Saffron Yellow to shade beaks, feet, and bottom of Moon Yellow dots.

Mix Saffron Yellow and Bubblegum Pink 1:1. With mixture, shade bottoms of Moon Yellow dots, beaks, and feet, base right flower on bird; and shade beaks.

Base coat trim on umbrella, large knob on top, knob at bottom of umbrella handle Pistachio Mint. Dot small Pistachio dots on Bubblegum Pink section of umbrella.

Mix equal parts of Bahama Blue and Bubblegum Pink. With mixture, base center flower on bird; dot bottom portion of umbrella and Pistachio Mint knob on top of umbrella.

Base coat left flower on bird Bubblegum Pink.

Mix equal parts of Pistachio Mint and Festive Green. Base coat leaves by flowers on birds and float bottom and sides of umbrella trim.

Float Festive Green to shade leaves on bird; deepen shading on bottom of umbrella; bow tie, and umbrella trim.

Double load brush with Saffron Yellow and Carousel Pink and shade Saffron Yellow/Bubblegum Pink flower, bottom of bird’s feet, and beak.

With Carousel Pink, shade Bubblegum Pink flower and umbrella handle and top knob.

Double load brush with Slate Grey and Bahama Blue; float bottom side of raindrops.

Float top side of raindrops in Snow White.

Mix Lamp Black and Bahama Blue 1:1. Using 10/0 liner brush, outline everything and base coat eyes.

Dot Snow White eyes and apply Snow White highlight strokes to raindrops, umbrella, wings, top of beak, and feet.

Base knob on top of umbrella and on bottom of handle, bow tie, and Pistachio Mint/Festive Green umbrella trim with Limelight.

With Ice Crystal, base coat rain drops, Moon Yellow umbrella dots, beaks, and feet.

Using painter’s tape, mask off striped area on outer rim of plate. Base coat stripes Sea Glass; let dry. When dry, remove tape.

Mix Warm White and Slate Grey 70% to 30%; float to shade around striped area, creating border.

Apply two coats of DuraClear varnish to both sides of plate, allowing to dry thoroughly between applications.


Always clean brushes after painting.
Allow project to dry between steps.
