Adults can have fun painting and embellishing this paper maché box set. These paper maché boxes make a wonderful gift or addition to a baby’s room decor.
Step 1 Optional -- gesso the boxes and lids and let dry completely. Sand each box and wipe down with a rag to remove dust.
Step 2 Paint the boxes a soft yellow or your choice of color. Let paint dry.
Step 3 Choose seven coordinating colors to paint the box lids, or paint them all one color. Paint the lids and let them dry. Use a sponge dabber dipped in paint to make the polka dots. Paint a wood knob the same color of the polka dots used on each box. Let dry.
Step 4 Hot glue a wood knob to the center of each lid.
Step 5 Cut thin ribbon to wrap and tie around each box lid. *If desired, glue thin ribbon around the base of each box.
Step 6 Measure and cut a square paper mat for each box from pink or blue cardstock. You will need to cut one each 1¾", 2¼", two 2¾", 3¼" and two 3¾".
Step 7 Choose a baby image for each box. You can use black and white copies of photos. Sizes needed are: 1½", 2", two 2½", 3”, two 3½".
Step 8 Use a tape runner or glue stick to attach photo to each paper mat and then attach a mat to the front of each box.
Step 9 Use 3D Glue Dots® to attach a wood cutout or alpha letter to the corner of each photo.
Tips
Gesso the boxes first, let dry and sand. Paint will adhere better and you will use less paint. Paint the wood knobs before gluing onto the painted box lids. Refer to photo to assist with project.
