  • Loops & Threads® Country Loom™ (5 oz./140 ga.; 104 yds./95m) Yarn – Shale (1 Ball)
  • Knitting Needles, Set of Four, Size U.S. 13 (9mm) Double-pointed Knitting Needles or Size Needed to Obtain Gauge
  • Stitch Marker

Project Instructions

Size: One size to fit average woman’s head.

Gauge: 11 sts and 16 rows = 4" (10cm) in stocking stitch.

Cast on 52 sts. Divide sts on 3 needles: (18, 18, 16) sts. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.

1st rnd: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.

Rep last rnd 3 times more.

Proceed in pat as follows:

1st to 4th rnds: Knit.

5th rnd: Purl.

These 5 rnds form pat.

Cont in pat until work from beg measures approx 6" (15cm), ending with a 5th rnd of pat.

Shape top: 1st rnd: *K11. K2tog. Rep from * around. 48 sts.

2nd and 3rd rnds: Knit.

4th rnd: *K4. K2tog. Rep from * around. 40 sts.

5th rnd: Purl.

6th rnd: *K3. K2tog. Rep from * around. 32 sts.

7th rnd: *K2. K2tog. Rep from * around. 24 sts.

8th rnd: *K2tog. Rep from * around. 12 sts. Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw end tightly through rem sts and fasten securely.

Pom pom: Wind yarn around 4 fingers approx. 80 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape. Sew securely to top of hat.
