Project Instructions

Step 1 Drill a hole the width of the stick into the sides of the bottom of the box approximately 1¾" down from the top.

Step 2 Paint the exterior sides and back of the box dark brown. Let dry. Paint the front of the box, the deep portion of the interior and the edges of the opened box turquoise. Paint the shallow interior Terra Cotta. Let dry. Insert the stick through the holes.

Step 3 Paint the 2" wood block brown. Cut out the “Nest” graphic and adhere to the front of the block using Mod Podge®. Set aside to dry.

Step 4 Trim scrapbook paper and dictionary page to fit the inside of the box. Adhere using Mod Podge®.

Step 5 Using some watered-down turquoise paint and a dry brush, brush over the dictionary page that’s adhered to the deep portion of the inside of the box. Using watered-down brown paint and a dry brush, use the same technique for the interior sides of the deep portion of the box to add an antiqued look.

Step 6 Trim cover paper to 4-7/8"x8". Ink the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Lightly dry brush white paint over the front.

Step 7 Color bird image from the design sheet using Inktense pencils. Cut out and adhere to the front of the box. Mat the saying onto Kraft cardstock, ink edges and adhere to the box. Add feathers using a small dab of hot glue. Ink the edges of the front of the box using Vintage Photo ink pad. Add dots around edge of front using Terra Cotta paint.

Step 8 Mat an image from the design sheet onto Kraft cardstock leaving approximately 1/8" border. Adhere to the front of the small paper bag. Ink the edges of the bag. Adhere to the inside of the box lid. Insert a feather if desired or make a tag to go inside.

Step 9 Glue the block into the box at the bottom right.

Step 10 Glue nest on top of block.

Step 11 Dry brush a little turquoise paint onto the three eggs and glue them into the nest.

Step 12 Choose an image from the design sheet for the hanging pendant. Trim it out and add small words from the sheet if desired. Put the image between two pieces of glass and insert into the pendant. Glue pendant bale to the top of the pendant.

Step 13 Thread a pearl onto a head pin and make a loop on top. Attach to bottom of the pendant with a jump ring.

Step 14 Thread a piece of wire (approximately 12") through the bale and wrap around the bale several times. Wrap the ends of the wire around the branch, letting the pendant hang down and leaving space between the pendant and the nest.

Step 15 Position small branch in the box and glue in a small amount of Spanish moss.

Step 16 Thread bead and charm or ephemera onto wire and wrap around the branch ends sticking out of the sides of the box.

Step 17 Using the Sharpie®, write a bird-themed poem or saying around the front edge of the shadowbox.

Step 18 Brush One Step Crackle™ around the edges of the brown portion of the box. Apply generously. Let dry.
