Project Instructions

Step: 1

If sheets birch bark sheets are too thick, carefully peel off thin layers of the birch from the back of an 8-inch x 10-inch sheet, beginning at the top of the sheet and gently lifting away several layers using the tip of a utility blade. When a portion large enough to grasp has been separated, hold front side of bark firmly on work surface and with the other hand carefully lift off layer, easing bark around knots and using utility knife if necessary. Use knippers or heavy duty scissors to cut five 5-inch squares from birch bark.

Step: 2

Use a generous amount of glue to adhere bark to top and sides of foam cube. Piece together birch bark scraps to cover bottom of the cube. If needed, use straight pins to help hold the bark in place.
