Project Instructions

Girl Yarn Doll

Cut a piece of Aran yarn approximately 3" long and another piece at 4". Set aside.

Wrap Aran yarn around cardboard, length-wise, roughly 50 times. Trim away from skein.

While yarn is still wrapped on cardboard, slip 3" piece of Aran yarn cut in the first step around the top and tie in a tight knot. Cut yarn off of cardboard, at the bottom, cutting through the yarn loops created when wrapping in step above. The knot tied at the top should now be off of the cardboard and the center of several pieces of 14" Aran yarn.

Hold center piece and fold yarn pieces in half. Using your fingers, cinch yarn together 1" below tied knot and tie with the 4" piece, cut in Step 1. The doll should have the look of a tassel at this point. Set aside.

To create the braided arms, cut 36 8" pieces of Aran yarn. Lay all pieces together. At one end, tie a 2" piece of yarn at the “wrist”, leaving 1" excess. Divide the rest into three 12 string sections and braid until there is 1" excess and tie a 2" piece of yarn to create the other wrist. See photo for a guide, if needed.

Separate the yarn of doll in half and tuck the braided arm into the body. Position so that each arm is sticking out from the body on each side evenly. Tie several pieces of Leaf Green yarn around the waist, suggesting a belt or sash.

If desired, tie a Leaf Green bow in the hair to accessorize.

Boy Yarn Doll

Cut a piece of black yarn approximately 3" and another piece at 4". Set aside.

Wrap black yarn around cardboard, length-wise, roughly 50 times. Trim away from skein.

Separate the hanging yarn strings under the belt into two sections. Within each section, divide into three additional sections and braid to create braided legs. Tie off with 2" pieces of yarn.
