Project Instructions

Step: 1

Using painters tape, divide the vase into equal sections to create squares for the flowers.

Flower #1 Aster

Step: 7

• Double load the ¾” flat brush with Wicker White and Violet Pansy. Using the chisel edge of the brush and leading with Violet Pansy, pull the first layer of petals. Start with a petal at 12 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and 9 o’clock, then pull more petals in between. Be sure to pull all petals into the center.


Step: 8

• Using the same brush, colors, and technique, lead with Wicker White and pull the second layer of petals.


Step: 9

• Load the #12 flat brush with Violet Pansy and pull short center petals.


Step: 10

• Dip flat end of the script liner into the Lemon Custard to paint center.

• Double load the ¾” flat brush with Wicker White and Magenta. Use the flat side of the brush and keep the Wicker White to the outer edge to paint the rose.


Step: 17

• Paint the first skirt in a large ring, keeping an open hole in center.


Step: 18

• Paint the second skirt by overlapping the first layer. Paint petals closer to make the hole smaller. Repeat with a third skirt.


Step: 19

• Paint the bud and comma strokes.


Step: 20

• Load the #12 flat brush and paint leaves.

• Double load the #12 flat brush with Thicket and Fresh Foliage. Paint stems and leaves.


Step: 28

• Double load the #12 flat brush with Engine Red and Lemon Custard. Using the flat side of the brush and keeping the Engine Red to the outer edge, paint the back petals. Next, paint the front petals slightly shorter.


Step: 29

• Pull stamens out from the centers using the script liner and Fresh Foliage.


Step: 30

• Dot the tips of the stamens with Lemon Custard.

Mini Scruffy

• Double load the mini scruffy with Maple Syrup and Licorice. Use a pouncing motion and keep the Licorice side of the brush down to pounce the center. Start at the 3 o’clock position and move in a counter clockwise direction. Do not turn the brush.

• Load the #12 flat brush with Lemon Custard and School Bus Yellow. Using the chisel edge of the brush, lead with Lemon Custard and pull petals from the edge of the center outward.

• Re-pounce the center after all petals are pulled.

• Double load the ¾” flat brush with Lemon Custard and Magenta; add a touch of Wicker White to the Lemon Custard side to brighten the color. Using the flat side of the brush and keeping the Lemon Custard and Wicker White to the outer edge, paint the petals.

• Load the #12 brush with Magenta. Use the chisel edge of the brush and pull detail strokes out from the center.


Step: 49

• Use script liner with Fresh Foliage to pull the stamen out from the center of the flower. Put small tips at the end. Dot the tips with Lemon Custard and Wicker White. Add small curved lines to the bottom of the stamen with Fresh Foliage.

#12 flat brush


Step: 55

• Double load the #12 flat brush with Magenta and a touch of Wicker White. Use the chisel edge of the brush and lead with Wicker White, pull the first layer of petals into the center. Start with a petal at 12 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and 9 o’clock then pull more petals in between, pulling all petals into the center.


Step: 56

• Using the same brush and colors use the chisel edge and lead with Magenta to add a shorter second layer of petals on top of the first.


Step: 57

• Using the same brush and colors, use the chisel edge and lead with Wicker White and add a third layer of petals.


Step: 58

• Dip the end of the handle of the brush into Fresh Foliage. Dot the center then move the handle in a small circle, making the center larger.


Step: 59

• Use Wicker White to dot around the outer edge of the Fresh Foliage circle.

• Use the script liner with Magenta to add spots to flowers.

• Use the script liner with Fresh Foliage to paint stamens with Lemon Custard tops.

• Double load the ¾” flat brush with Cobalt and Wicker White. Using the chisel edge of the brush and leading with Wicker White, pull petals up to the center of the flower. Curve the side petals inward and occasionally flip the brush to lead with Cobalt.

• Using the same brush and colors, paint a second layer of petals slightly shorter than the first layer.


Step: 89

• Load the scruffy with Yellow Ochre; pounce the lower edge of the center.


Step: 90

• Load the scruffy with Lemon Custard; pounce the cone center.

• Dot the bottom edge of the center with Fresh Foliage.

• Load the ¾” flat brush with Lemon Custard and pounce on the corner to form center.

• Load the script liner with Fresh Foliage; pull stamens into center.


Step: 100

Load the script liner with Wicker White; pull longer stamens into the center.


Tips

If painting on a glass or ceramic surface, wipe surface with rubbing alcohol to remove dirt and fingerprints prior to painting.
