Brush Shapes

Loew-Cornell takes the guesswork out of choosing a brush with this guide. The names for same or similar shapes, in various hairs or handle lengths, appear in parentheses.

Round ; Use on point, or apply pressure to make thick-to-thin strokes.

Round Stroke ; Shaped specifically for decorative stroke work, with the fine point coming from the centermost hairs.

Liner ; Continuous curved or straight lines. Vary thickness with pressure changes.

Deerfoot Stippler ; Texturing brush. Use a dry brush and light, pouncing technique for fur, shrubbery and soft backgrounds.

Angular Bristle ; Create natural textures of wildflowers, foliage, snow, ocean foam, etc. Stippling, dry brushing and scrubbing techniques.
