Project Instructions
GAUGE
9 sts and 12 rows = about 4" (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
STITCH EXPLANATIONS
LT (Left Twist) Knit 2nd st on left needle through the back loop and leave on left needle. Then knit both the first and 2nd sts together through the back loop.
RT (Right Twist) K2tog and leave on left needle, then with right needle, go between the two sts and k the first st again.
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – one st increased.
MB (Make Bobble) Knit into front of next st but do not remove this st from needle, knit into back of same st and do not remove st from needle, knit into front of same st again and do not remove st from needle, knit into back of same st, remove st from needle (three sts increased). Turn and purl across the four sts. Turn and knit across the four sts. Pass the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th st on the right needle over the first st and off of the needle.
NOTE
When knitting in the round on double pointed needles (dpn), your sts need to be divided fairly evenly onto the needles. If you are working with a set of four dpn, your sts should be divided among three needles. If you are working with a set of five dpn, your sts should be divided among four needles. The total number of sts will not always be evenly divisible by the number of dpns that you are using – this is not a problem! Simply divide your sts as evenly as possible, you will still create a symmetrical ‘tube’ of knitting.
HAT
Cast on 48 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles (12 sts on each needle). Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Ribbing
Rnd 1: *K1 through the back loop, p1; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 until piece measures about 4" (10 cm) from beg.
Beg Pattern
Increase Rnd: (K1, M1, k2, p5) six times – 54 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: (LT, k2, p2, MB,p2) six times.
Next Rnd: (K4, p5) six times.
Next Rnd: (K2, RT, p5) six times.
Next Rnd: (K4, p5) 6 times.
Rep last four rnds four more times.
Shape Crown (top of Hat)
Rnd 1: (K1, k2tog, k1, p2tog, p1, p2tog) six times – 36 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: (K1, k2tog, p1,p2tog) six times – 24 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: (K2tog, p2tog) six times – 12 sts.
Rnd 4:(K2tog) six times – six sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.
