Project Instructions
Step 1 Paint the edges of the wood plaque with brown paint. Step 2 Tear the craft paper into pieces and use Mod Podge® to adhere them to the surface of the plaque. Step 3 Once dry, lightly stain the paper with a diluted solution of Transparent Burnt Umber. Step 4 Cut the Styrofoam® ball in half using a serrated-edge knife. Step 5 Continue to form the half-cut ball into the antler mount head. A long X-ACTO® paint blade works perfectly. Step 6 Temporarily place the Styrofoam® shape onto the plaque, for placement, and drill two holes through the ball into the wood for the antler placement. To Make the Antlers Step 1 Begin with a wooden dowels and manipulate the wire into your desired antler shapes. Use photo as a guide. Step 2 Cover the wire and wood with the wire mesh. Step 3 Begin adding paper clay to the wire mesh form. Smooth and texture as desired. Allow to set until dry. Step 4 Lightly stain the dried antlers with a diluted solution of Transparent Burnt Umber. Step 5 Trim the wooden dowel as needed using a saw. Step 6 Place some hot glue onto the ends of the dowel and place them into the drilled holes. Allow to set. Step 7 Take the felt and form it over the Styrofoam® ball and around the antlers. Step 8 Use the staple gun to secure the felt to the place, trapping the Styrofoam® ball under the felt. Step 9 Staple as close to the ball as possible. Step 10 Trim the excess felt with scissors. Step 11 Braid the sueded lace to make a trim to place around the base of the felt to hide any staples. Hot glue in place. Step 12 Add a bit more paper clay to build up around the base of the antlers to hide where the dowels enter the Styrofoam®.
