FAQ

What surfaces can I paint on?
You can paint on wood, tin, ceramic, glass, terra cotta, canvas, plastic, papier-mâché, plaster, and fabric.

Is this paint non-toxic?
Yes, our paints are non-toxic and made in America.

What crafts are best suited for this paint?
The paints are perfect for all craft and hobby painting techniques, including brush painting and detailing, sponging, stenciling, stamping, and printing.

Should I use this on porous or non-porous surfaces?
Both. Because it is a self-priming paint, it can seal and provide color at the same time.

How should I prepare my project surface?

Wood – Sand smooth with fine grit sandpaper, wipe away sawdust.

Tin – Wash with soap and water; wipe with white vinegar-dampened cloth.

Glass/Ceramic – Wash with soap and water; wipe with rubbing alcohol-dampened cloth. Let air dry 15–30 minutes.

Terra Cotta – Wipe clean; seal pot interior with paint or two coats of Martha Stewart Crafts Sprayable Satin Enamel Finish.

Canvas – Wipe primed canvas clean; if unprimed, apply two coats of gesso primer.

Plastic – Wipe clean with damp cloth.

Papier-Mâché – Wipe clean with damp cloth.

Plaster – Wipe clean with damp cloth.

Concrete – Coat with white vinegar (to neutralize lime), let dry, rinse, then let dry thoroughly. The paint is not recommended for concrete areas subject to foot traffic, such as a patio.

Fabric – Prewash in soap and water according to label. Dry thoroughly without fabric softener or dryer sheet. Iron if necessary (without starch).

Can I mix colors to create a new color?
Yes. However, we recommend only mixing paints with the same finish, e.g., satin with satin.

How should I clean tools?
Clean tools while still wet. Wash with soap and water or with Brush & Stencil Cleaner: apply cleaner; work into lather, rinse in cool water and let dry.
