Cluster Pearl & Crystal Drop Earrings

The unusual large round shape of the faceted crystal drops on these earrings really makes them a unique style. This set is light and effervescent with delicate pearls and silver balls bubbling like champagne overflowing a crystal glass. The technique is simple but the results are stunning! Project Instructions

Step: 1

Place a 6mm jump ring through the top hole on each crystal round.

Step: 2

Rings and loops should be opened and closed by moving the open end to the side, a twisting motion (think how a paper clip slides open - the shape is not distorted). If you open going against the curve of the circle it is difficult to get the circle to meet properly again to make a secure connection and the wire is more likely to break.

Step: 3

Thread a pearl onto a ball head pin and finish with a simple top loop.

Step: 4

Create a top loop by trimming the pin approximately ¼-inch beyond the top bead. Using your round nose pliers, bend the wire to form a right angle, at the top of the crystal bead. Use the end of your pliers to grasp the end of the wire and going against the bend you just made, curve the wire using a twist of your wrist to roll the wire over a single prong (think of the twisting motion you use with a screwdriver). Let the round cone of the pliers create the round loop. You may have to release the wire and continue the rolling motion a little further down the wire to complete the circle. Don’t worry if the circle doesn’t look perfect, the shape can be finessed a little using your pliers to make minor corrections. Make 12 pearl drops.

Step: 5

Link 2-4mm jump rings together to form a short chain and connect this to the bottom loop of a lever back earring. Do this for the second earring as well.

Step: 6

Open the bottom jump ring to attach the crystal drop on each earring.

Step: 7

Place 3 pearl drops on the top 4mm jump ring and place 3 pearl drops on the bottom 4mm jump ring. Make sure to place some pearls on both sides of the ring so the cluster forms all around.
