Project Instructions

Prepare roll out cookie dough. Cut 7 Comfort Grip Skull cookies, 1 ghost cookie (trim right arm down), 1 spider cookie (cut legs off), 1 mini bat, 3 mini skulls, 1 mini cat, four 1 x 4 in. rectangles, five 3 x 1 ½ in. triangles. Bake and cool. 

Prepare chocolate roll out cookie dough. Cut one 4 x 2 ½ in. rectangle and score lengthwise with knife every ½ in. Cut one 12 x 3 ½ in. rectangle and score lengthwise with knife every ½ in. Cut three 11 x 2 in. rectangles. Bake and cool. 

Tint fondant: ½ oz. copper, ½ oz. gray (with a small amount of black color), 1 oz. white, 1 oz. brown; reserve 1 oz. white. Roll white fondant ¼ in. thick, cut out four ¾ x 1 in. rectangles for arms. Turn Comfort Grip Skull Cutter with bottom of cutter at top; use as guide to trim arms so they will fit flush against the scientists’ bodies. Roll four ¾ in. copper fondant balls for hands, flatten and cut slits for fingers and shape into hands; attach to arm with damp brush. For sleeves and cuffs on lab coats, roll out white fondant 1/8 in. thick cut four strips of white fondant 3/8 in. x 1 ½ in. Attach to arm with damp brush. Let dry on surface sprinkled with cornstarch. 

To make scientists, attach skull cookies for heads to upside down cookies for bodies with melted candy. Ice heads smooth with cooper icing and ice bodies smooth with white icing. Use tip 3 to pipe white dots of eyes, black dot pupils, copper noses and black mouths (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Use tip 3 and copper icing to pipe eyelids on scientist with gray hair. Use tip 3 and black icing to pipe pull-out hair and eyebrows on one scientist and tip 3 and gray icing to pipe pull-out hair and eyebrows on other scientist. Use tip 1 and white icing to pipe pull-out teeth on scientist with gray hair. Use tip 3 and white icing to outline and pipe-in lab coats and black icing for shoe details and ties (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Let dry for 24 hours.

Attach arms to scientists (cut from skull cookies) with melted candy; let set. Attach two easel to backs of each scientist with melted candy; let set. 

To make hunchback, attach spider circle to ghost’s body with melted candy. Ice face smooth with copper icing, ice pants and shirt smooth with black icing. Use tip 3 to pipe white dots of eyes, black pupils and outline and fill-in mouth. Use tip 3 and copper icing to pipe dot nose and pull-out ears. Use tip 1 and black icing to pipe pull-out hair and eyebrows. Pipe tip 3 black bent arm and copper hands. Attach easel (triangle cut cookies) to back of cookie with melted candy; let set. 

To make Frankenstein, ice head cookie with green icing. Pipe tip 3 black hair and eyebrows. Pipe tip 1 black zigzag mouth. Pipe tip 3 green nose and whites of eyes; add tip 3 black dot pupils. Pipe tip 3 gray bolts on neck and score with knife. Score with knife to resemble wood. Sandwich three of the 11 x 2 in. cookies for table with candy; let set. For body of Frankenstein, stack two skull cookies for upper body and attach 1 x 4 in. rectangle cookies for legs with melted candy; let set. Ice shirt brown and pants black. Pipe tip 1A arms with brown icing and tip 3 hands with green icing and score fingers with knife. Attach head to body and prop up with a 1 oz. ball of brown fondant. Roll two 1 ½ x 1 in. x ¾ in. black fondant ovals for shoes and attach to legs with icing. Roll gray fondant 1/8 in. thick and cut two 5 x ½ in. strips for straps and attach to body with damp brush. Attach six pretzel sticks, cut to 1 in. each, to bottom of table with melted candy; let set. 

To make small table, cut four pretzels to 2 ¼ in. lengths and attach to bottom of small table cookie (4 x 2 in. rectangle) with melted candy. Score with knife to resemble wood. Mold white candy bones and position on table. Ice skull head cookies white and pipe tip 1 black facial features (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Ice cat and bat smooth in black and pipe tip 1 green eyes, black pupils and facial features.
