Project Instructions

  1. Roll one large ball of Crayola® Model Magic® and shape it into a rounded cube.  Use your thumb to make an indentation in the center of the cube.
  2. Roll long, thin snakes using two different colors of Model Magic.  Cut them into about 2-inch long pieces and poke them around the indentation in the cube.
  3. Roll another piece of Model Magic into a ball, flatten and shape it into an oval for a fish.  Use the craft stick to make a small cut in one end of the oval for a mouth.
  4. Roll two tiny balls, flatten and press them in place for eyes.  Roll a thin snake and outline the fish's mouth.  Roll more thin snakes and press onto the fish for stripes.
  5. Gently press the fish into the indention on the cube.
  6. Roll a fat snake of Model Magic, wrap it around the cube then extend it up next to the fish to form a branch of coral.  Roll thin snakes and attach them around the fat snake as shown.
  7. To make the eel, roll a medium snake and wrap it around the branch of coral.  Roll two balls, flatten and press them in place for eyes.  Roll a flattened strip of Model Magic, make small cuts along one side to create fringe and press it along the back of the eel. Repeat to make three more fringed strips and place them on the back and sides of the fish for fins.
  8. To make the flower, roll and flatten four small balls of Model Magic and shape into petals.  Press them in place on the reef as shown.  Roll tiny, flattened balls and decorate the flower as desired.

Coral reefs are actually made from skeletons!  Coral polyps, tiny animals that live in colonies, leave behind a hard, stony structure made of limestone and over many years they build up.

Craft Notes

Adult supervision is required at all times. Mix red and white Model Magic® to create pink.
