Tips for using Inktense pencils:
· Add water to dry pencil to create a strong, clear color wash.
· Once dry the color wash is permanent and can be worked over with other media, wet or dry.
· Can color with Inktense pencils and Inktense blocks, then mist with a spritzer bottle to set the color.
Using a slightly damp pouncer, rub Inktense block over pouncer. The pouncer can be used to paint paper or to stencil designs onto your paper.
Layer other self-designed papers, scrapbook papers, dictionary pages, and secure into desired position using gel medium.
Creating Your Cover
Lay a canvas board on the watercolor paper and trace lightly around the edge of the board to define the space for your cover design. When you have the paper you desire, brush the back with gel medium and adhere to the front of the canvas board. Smooth out your paper to ensure that there are no air bubbles. Brush another layer of gel medium over top of the paper.
Flip the board over and trim paper to about 1" all the way around. Trim the corners at an angle and wrap the paper smoothly to the back using gel medium.
Measure a piece of cardstock or scrapbook paper to 5½"x7" and adhere to the back of the canvas board. This will become your inside front cover. Repeat for the back cover.
Start with the chipboard dividers. Decorate these all at once or as you go. Create your own papers as you did for the covers, using watercolor paper and Inktense pencils, scrapbook paper, dictionary paper, or a combination. Decorate both sides of the chipboard dividers and further embellish with ephemera such as envelopes, folders, pockets, tags, etc.. As you create the pages, make sure you mark where you will need to punch the holes, using the cover as a template so that everything lines up.
Create tabs for your dividers using cardstock, ribbon, etc. Get creative!!
Continue making pages for your journal. Remember you can always go back later and add photos, and journal entries.
Use scrapbook papers, cardstock, chipboard, watercolor paper, handmade paper, for these pages. Decorate them and add ephemera. Be sure to vary the size of the pages for added interest.
Add envelopes, library pockets, fold-outs, tags, photos, and other memorabilia into the journal. You can have as many pages as the rings will allow.
When you have your book put together, you can further embellish with ephemera and add ribbons and beads to your rings if desired.
