Shape Armholes

Bind off 5 (6, 6, 7) sts beg next 2 rows - 38 (40, 46, 48) sts. Place a marker each side of center 18 (18, 20, 20) sts. Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every row 2 (3, 4, 5) times; AT SAME TIME when armhole measures 1 1/2 (1 1/2, 2, 2)” from beg of shaping, shape neck as follows:

(RS) Work to first neck marker; join a second ball of yarn and bind off center 18 (18, 20, 20) sts for Back neck; work to end. Working both sides at same time, at each neck edge, dec 1 st every row 2 (2, 3, 3) times, then EOR once - 5 (5, 5, 5) sts remain for each strap.

Dec 1 st at armhole edge every row 2 (3, 4, 5) times; AT SAME TIME when armhole measures 1 1/2 (1 1/2, 2, 2)” from beg of shaping, bind off 11 sts at neck edge once, then dec 1 st at neck edge every row 2 (2, 3, 3) times, then every other row once - 5 (5, 5, 5) sts remain for strap. Continue in 1x1 rib until strap measures 3 1/2” from neckline. Bind off.

Working on 22 (24, 28, 30) sts from holder for right front, work even until piece measures same as Back to beg of 1x1 rib. Beg 1x1 rib and continue until piece measures same as Back to armhole.

Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every row 2 (3, 4, 5) times; AT SAME TIME when armhole measures 1 1/2 (1 1/2, 2, 2)” from beg of shaping, bind off 7 (7, 9, 9) sts at neck edge once, then dec 1 st at neck edge every row 2 (2, 3, 3) times, then every other row once - 5 (5, 5, 5) sts remain for strap. Continue in 1x1 rib until strap measures 3 1/2” from neckline. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT PLACKET

Note: There are no buttonholes due to large gauge of yarn. Buttons are forced through sts.

With RS facing, pick up 36 sts along Right Front opening. Work in 1x1 rib for 6 rows. Bind off.

LEFT FRONT OPENING

POCKETS

Cast on 18 sts. Work even in St st for 3 1/2"

Bind off 3 sts beg next row. Dec 1 st on same side every other row 6 times -- 9 sts.

Continue until pocket measures 9" from beg. Bind off.

Work 1 row sc on curved edge.

Make a second pocket with rev shaping.

FINISHING

Measure pocket placement and pin and baste in place with sides of pockets flush with seams. (They will be caught in seams.) Sew pockets in place.

Sew side seams.

Work 1 row sc around neckline, straps, and armholes.

Using yarn needle, weave in ends and steam lightly.


Step: 50

Sew buttons to Left Front. Add buckles to straps.
