Project Instructions

Body: Make 2 : front and back sides.

With Size J/10 hook and brown yarn:

Chain 4 and join with slip stitch to form ring.


Row 1 - Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc in this and every row), work 11 dc in ring making 12 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 2 – Chain 3 and 1 dc in same space, 2 dc in each dc around making a total of 24 dc.

Slip stitch in top of chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 3 – Chain 3 and 1 dc in same space, 1 dc in next dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from * around making a total of 36 dc. Slip stitch in top of chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 4 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 2 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * around making a total of 48 dc. Slip stitch in top of chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 5 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 3 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 3 dc, repeat from * around making a total of 60 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 6 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 4 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 4 dc, repeat from * around making a total of 72 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3space to join. Do not turn.

Row 7 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 5 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 5 dc, repeat from * around making a total of 84 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 8 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 6 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 6 dc, repeat from * around making a total of 96 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 9 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 7 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 7 dc, repeat from * around making a total of 108 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 10 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 8 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 8 dc,repeat from * around making a total of 120 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 11 – Chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 9 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 9 dc,repeat from * around making a total of 132 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 12 – Chain 3, dc in each dc around making a total of 132 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Fasten off.

Owl Pillow - Eyes:

Make 2.

With Size J/10 hook and black yarn:

Chain 4 and join with slip stitch to form ring.


Row 1 – Continuing with black yarn, chain 3 (counts as 1 dc in this and every row), work 11 dc in ring making a total of 12 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Do not turn. At back of work join in next color for Row 2: Blue.

Row 2 – With blue yarn, chain 3 and 1 dc in same space, 2 dc in each dc around making a total of 24 dc. Slip stitch in top of chain 3 space to join. Do not turn. At back of work join in next color for Row 3: Black.

Row 3 – With black yarn, chain 3 and 1 dc in same space, 1 dc in next dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from * around making a total of 36 dc. Slip stitch in top of chain 3 space to join. Do not turn. At back of work join in next color for Row4: White.

Row 4 – With white yarn, chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 2 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * around making a total of 48 dc. Slip stitch in top of chain 3 space to join. Do not turn.

Row 5 – Continuing with white yarn, chain 3 and dc in same space, 1 dc in next 3 dc; * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 3 dc, repeat from * around making a total of 60 dc. Slip stitch in top of first chain 3 space to join. Fasten off. It is not necessary to weave ends in on back of work since it will be hidden when attached to body of owl.


Owl Pillow - Beak:

Make 1.

With Size J/10 hook and black yarn:

Chain 3 and join with slip stitch to form ring.


Row 1 – Chain 3, 4 dc in circle, making a total of 5 dc.

Row2 – Chain 3, counts as one dc, turn. 2 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in last dc for a total of 8 dc.

Row3 – Chain 3, counts as one dc, turn. dc in each of remaining 7 dc, for a total of 8 dc.

Fasten off.

Owl Pillow - Feet:

Make 2.

With Size J/10 hook and black yarn:

Chain 4 and join with slip stitch to form ring.


Row 1 – Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc in this and every row), 7 dc in circle, making a total of 8 dc.

Row2 – Chain 3, turn. 2 dc in each of next 6 dc, 1 dc in last dc for a total of 14 dc.

Row3 – Chain 3, turn. dc in each of next 12 dc, one dc in last dc for atotal of 26 dc.

Fasten off.

Construction:

Sew eyes and beak to front of body as shown in photo.

Place front and back of bodies with back sides facing each other and stitch together

leaving an opening just large enough to insert pillow form.

Insert pillow form and stitch together opening with brown yarn.

With black yarn stitch feet in place as shown in sample.

For fluffy ear pieces take approximately 15-20 pieces of yarn in equal parts black and brown, cut to 8 inches, fold over and loop through piece, pulling with hook, at either side of head as shown in sample. Add more if you prefer fuller, fluffier ears.Trim as needed.

Tips

You may use a 16" round pillow form and cover with brown fabric, or you may make one of your own.
