- Hemp, 10lb. – Black
- Triangle Beads (166), 5mm – Crystal with Silver Lining
Cut three 22" pieces of black hemp and one 3 yard piece of hemp.
Hold two 22" (20lb) pieces of hemp together and make an overhand knot about 6” from one end. These two strands will be the “anchor” strands of the bracelet. Attach the top (6" portion) of the bracelet to a sturdy holder (such as the clip of a clipboard) so bracelet can be easily assembled from top downward.
Take the 3 yard (10lb) piece of hemp and fold in half. Attach to the “anchor” strands by tying (at fold) right below the overhand knot. Pull tight. These 10lb strands will be the “stringing” strands and will hold the beads in place between the anchor strands.
Position the stringing strands to either side, leaving the anchor strands hanging down in the middle.
For row 1, take the left stringing strand and thread (left to right) through one crystal triangle bead. Take right stringing strand and thread (right to left) through the same bead. Pull stringing strands tight so bead is held in place. Then move these strands under the anchor strands and to either side (stringing strand that was on the left is now on the right, stringing strand that was on the right is now on the left).
For row 2, take the stringing strand from the left (left-side anchor strand is over it), bring forward and thread (left to right) through two crystal triangle beads, catching the left-side anchor strand. Take the stringing strand from the right (right-side anchor is over it), bring forward and thread (right to left) through the same two crystal triangle beads, catching the right-side anchor strand. Again, pull stringing strands tight to hold the bead in place and then move the stringing strands under the anchor strands and to either side.
For row 3, make another row like the one above, but threading on three triangle beads.
Rows 4 through 33: Make the bulk of the bracelet, continue adding rows like directed above, but threading on five crystal triangle beads per row until you have 30 five-bead rows added.
For rows 34 through 36, make another row like above, but threading on only three triangle beads. Repeat for another row, but threading on only two beads. Repeat for the final row, using only one triangle bead. Bracelet should now have a total of 36 rows.
Once last row is complete, collect the stringing and anchor strands together and tie all strands in an overhand knot. Dab knot with glue (especially where the stringing strands are) and let dry. Cut the stringing strands close to the knot. Bracelet can now be removed from clipboard.
Bracelet now has two strands hanging on either end. On each strand, slide on a triangle bead and make a knot about 4” from closest overhand knot. Slide bead down to knot and make another knot on opposite side of bead to hold bead in place. Trim ends to a ½".
To make adjustable clasp, loop bracelet around (like you would wear on wrist) so the two strands on one side overlap with the two strands on the other side.
Take last 22" piece of hemp and fold in half. Tie piece (at fold) with a regular knot in the middle of the four overlapping strands from the bracelet holding the four strands together.
Using the two ends of the 22" piece as “knotters” and the four overlapping strands together as the “filler”, make four SQK. Dab end of SQK section with glue, making sure not to get any glue on the “filler” strands, and let dry. Trim “knotter” ends.
To “open” bracelet, carefully pull bracelet open. To “close”, carefully pull on the beaded strands.
Completed bracelet measures 7½" fully closed and will fit up to a 9" wrist.
