Dyed Jeans

Make old, worn in jeans new again with fabric dye. Bright colored denim is the latest trend and you can do-it-yourself with Tulip® Permanent Fabric Dye.

Material List

  • Tulip® Permanent Fabric Dye – Color of Choice
  • Jeans, 100% Cotton – White
  • Salt
  • Spoon (or Stick)
  • Disposable Plastic Table Cover
  • Plastic Bin (or Bucket), Large
  • Washer/Dryer

Project Instructions

Step 1 Pre-wash jeans to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener. Do not dry.

Step 2 Cover work surface with plastic tablecloth.

Step 3 In a large plastic container, mix dye according to package instructions, adding water, salt and dye as specified on package.

Step 4 Stir until dissolved.

Step 5 Submerge damp jeans in dye mixture.

Step 6 Stir continually for 15 minutes, and then occasionally for 45 minutes.

Step 7 Rinse fabric in cold water. Wash in warm water and line dry away from direct heat and sunlight.


Make sure to dissolve dye and salt before beginning.
