Project Instructions

  1. Knead each clay bar until soft and smooth. Roll 1/4 of the beige clay into a ball and press flat for elf's head. Roll two tiny teardrop shapes for ears and set aside. Roll 1/4 of the white clay into a fat teardrop shape for the hat and press flat. Press the hat to the head. Roll tiny lime balls and press to the hat. Press the ears to the head at sides of the hat.
  2. Roll small white balls for eyes and smaller French blue balls for pupils; press to face. Press the toothpick into the center of each eye. Roll a larger beige ball and press to the face for a nose. Use the toothpick to make a line in the clay for a mouth. Roll small hot pink balls for cheeks; press to face.
  3. Roll a thick red hot red log for the collar and use fingers to pull three points as shown. Press the collar to the bottom of the head. Push the paper clip into the center back of the head; be sure it doesn't poke through the front of the face.
  4. ADULT: Bake all pieces at 275° F (130° C) for 15 minutes per ¼-inch (6mm) of thickness. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT exceed the recommended temperature or baking time. Children using clay should be supervised at all times. All baking should be done by an adult.
  5. After baking, allow to cool. Glue the jingle bell to the tip of the hat; let dry. Cut ribbon to the desired length for a necklace, making sure it will easily fit over the head when the ends are knotted. Thread the ribbon ends through the paper clip loop at the back of the pendant; knot ends together.

Start with clean hands and work area. Good working surfaces include a glass or metal surface, disposable foil or wax paper.

Craft Notes
