Rep last rnd of (K2. P2) ribbing for 1 (1-1¼-1½-1½)" [2.5 (2.5-3-4-4) cm], inc 8 (6-10-13-16) sts evenly across last rnd. 84 (90-98-105-112) sts.

Change to larger set of needles and proceed in pat as follows:

2nd rnd: *K1 (2-1-2-1). P2. C6F. K3. P2. Rep from * around.

3rd to 5th rnds: As 1st rnd.

6th rnd: *K1 (2-1-2-1). P2. K3. C6B. P2. Rep from * around.

7th and 8th rnds: As 1st rnd.

Rep last 8 rnds for pat until work from beg measures approx 4½ (4¾-5¼-5½-6)" [11.5 (12-13-14-15) cm], ending with a 1st or 5th rnd of pat.

Shape top: 1st rnd: *K1 (2-1-2-1). P2tog. Pat next 9 sts. P2tog. Rep from * around. 72 (78-84-91-96) sts.

2nd and alt rnds: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.

3rd rnd: *K1 (2-1-2-1). P1. (K2. K2tog) twice. K1. P1. Rep from * around. 60 (66-70-77-80) sts.

0 (0-1-1-0) st. K0 (0-1-1-0). 15 (18-17-17-16) sts rem. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts. Pull tightly. Fasten securely.
