Project Instructions

  1. Have the student trace the circle template onto two different colors of cardstock to make two 8-inch circles. Cut out. Use a pencil to divide each circle into eight equal sections. (Number of sections depends on number of people in your family. You will need twice as many sections as family members.)
  2. On the white circle, write a family members name in one section. In the opposite section, draw and label a picture of that person's role. Repeat for the remaining family members. Use crayons or markers to color in the pictures.
  3. On the colored wheel, cut out the top half of one section and the top half of the opposite section, as shown. Use crayons or markers to write a title and to draw a picture of the family.
  4. Placing the colored circle over the white circle, put a brad through the center of both, connecting them together.

Tips

Use a plate or other circular object for the 8-inch circle template.

Craft Notes

Adult supervision is required at all times.

Background

What is a family? Who are the members of your family? How do each of these people help out in your family? Mother helps kids with homework. Dad picks kids up from school. Big sister babysits. Have students share their responses and record them on the board. Ask the students what do they do to contribute in their families? Make their beds. Feed the pets. Have each student prepare a chart with illustrations showing each member in their family and the special ways in which they help their family.
