Firecracker and USA Blocks
Create these colorful blocks and firecrackers from basic wood plaque shapes.

- DecoArt® Americana® Acrylic Paint:
- Calico Red
- Warm White
- Ultra Blue Deep
- Bundle of Plaques (3), Rectangle Blocks
- Bundle of Plaques (2), Long Rectangle Blocks
- Woodsie® XL Stars (5)
- Jute or Cotton Twine, 3"
- 3/4" Flat
- #8 Flat
- #1 Liner
- #4 Flat
- Pattern Transfer Paper
- Fine-tipped black permanent marker
- Low Heat Glue Gun and Glue
- Fine Grit Sanding Sponge
Paint one block each Warm White, Calico Red and Ultra Blue Deep.
Transfer the pattern for "USA" letters to the block using pattern transfer paper and a stylus.
Paint the "U" on the Calico Red block with Warm White. Shade edges of letter with Ultra Blue Deep.
Paint the "S" on the Warm White block with the Calico Red. Shade with Ultra Blue Deep.
Paint the "A" on the Ultra Blue Deep block with Warm White. Shade with Calico Red.
Basecoat both horizontal blocks Warm White. Paint "wavy" stripes on each block with Calico Red and Ultra Blue Deep (Refer to photo for placement).
Shade the edges of the Warm White area Ultra Blue Deep on one block and Calico Red on the other block. Shade edges of Calico Red stripe with Ultra Blue Deep, and edges of Ultra Blue Deep stripe with Warm White.
Using the brush handle, dot the Calico Red stripe with Warm White. Using the #1 liner brush, paint Warm White vertical stripes on the Ultra Blue Deep stripe.
Paint wood stars Calico Red, Ultra Blue Deep and Warm White (refer to photo). Shade Warm White star with Ultra Blue Deep. Shade remaining stars with Warm White.
Tie a knot at each end of jute or cotton twine, then clip apart. Glue the knot end of jute or cotton twine to the top of each firecracker as a "fuse."
Sand edges of blocks and firecrackers. Glue stars to firecrackers and blocks. Draw "stitch lines" around borders of blocks with the Black marker.
