Project Instructions

Step: 1

Protect work surface with plastic tablecloth.

Step: 2

Prewash T-shirt to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener. Lay damp shirt on prepared work surface.

Step: 3

Decide where you want the center of sunburst to be then pinch fabric at that point and pull up into a tube shape.

Step: 4

Wrap rubber band about 1-inch from the tip of tube and continue banding every 2-inch or 3-inch along length of fabric.

Step: 5

Wearing gloves from kit, add water to dye bottles, filling to line on bottle. Replace caps tightly and shake until dye is dissolved.

Step: 6

Squeeze Red dye on tip, Purple dye onto section below it and Fuchsia onto next section. Repeat dye application in that order until all sections have been dyed.

Step: 7

Wrap shirt with plastic tablecloth and let set 6 to 8 hours or longer for most intense colors. Fully rinse dyed shirt in warm water until water runs clear, then carefully cut off rubber bands. Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for the T-shirt fabric and a small amount of laundry soap. Wash and dry separately.

Step: 8

Lay dry shirt flat on work surface and cut fringe along the bottom of shirt, 3-inch long and ½-inch apart.

Step: 9

Cut sleeves off and set aside.

Step: 10

Cut the middle front of shirt to create vest. Turn cut edges under and glue with Fabric Fusion. Use clothespins to hold in place until set.

Step: 11

Cut sleeves into strips and tie around daisies to hold together. Glue daisies to another strip with Fabric Fusion and wear as a headband.

Step: 12

Cut a 3-inch circle of felt. Punch a hole in the top and thread ribbon through the hole. Tie the ends of the ribbon to create necklace.

Step: 13

Create a peace symbol on felt circle with Black Slick 3D Fashion Paint. Let dry.

Make sure to fully cover dyed fabric with plastic tablecloth or plastic wrap to keep fabric damp while dye sets.
