Project Instructions

For board base,  use Elmer's® X-ACTO® #1 Knife (with new blade), ruler and cutting mat to cut ½" thick, White Elmer's® Foam Board™: 14 3/8" square, two 1" x 14 3/8" strips and two 1" x 12 3/8" strips. From 3/16" thick, Blue Foam Board™, cut two 13" squares and two 1" x 14¾" strips. From 3/16" thick Yellow Foam Board™, cut two 13" squares and two 1" x 14½" strips. (Hint: Score lightly first and then press more firmly to cut deeper, with several passes of the knife. Replace blades often.)

To make border of game board, arrange ½" thick white strips on top of white square and aligned with edge. Use Elmer's® CraftBond™ Extra Strength Glue Stick to attach. To cover foam edges, position alternating blue and yellow strips around the square. Ask an adult to attach with glue gun.

To make chunky game pieces, use Glue Stick to glue together two 13" blue squares (with white sides to the inside). Similarly glue together yellow squares. Place books on top of squares to hold together until dry. Set aside.

Use pencil and ruler to measure and draw five 4"squares on blue and five 4" squares on yellow Foam Board™. Ask an adult to use X-ACTO® Knife, ruler and cutting mat to cut Foam Board™ pieces.

Stack and use Elmer's CraftBond™ Paper Craft Glue Gel to glue together five craft sticks. Repeat to make a total of ten pieces. (Hint: You can wrap rubber bands around each stack to hold together while drying.) Wipe excess glue off with damp paper towels. Let dry.

In a well-ventilated area protect work surface with old newspapers. Ask an adult to spray paint the jar rings with primer and then with two light even coats orange and the craft sticks with Olive Bright (green). Let dry.

To make the "X" game pieces, use pencil and ruler to measure and draw 2 1/8" in from both ends of five craft stick stacks. Ask an adult to use coping saw to cut. (Note you will be cutting about 3/8" from center of each of the five stacks.)

Use Paper Craft Glue Gel to attach full and cut pieces of craft sticks to make "X's " on center of yellow game pieces. Let dry. Ask an adult to use glue gun to attach flat rim of jar rings (rings will be upside down) to center of blue squares. Let dry. Place game pieces inside game board until ready to play Tic Tac Toe.
