• Use the FolkArt® HD™ Texture Tool with the flocked sponge tool.

Step: 3

• Apply Sunflower and Yellow Ochre to the FolkArt HD Palette.

• Load the Texture Tool with Sunflower and a touch of Yellow Ochre.

Step: 5

• Brush vertically across the canvas allowing the two colors to blend. Reload the Texture Tool with one or both colors as needed. Continue painting the background brushing up and down until the entire canvas has been painted with a warm glow. Allow to dry.

Step: 6

• Clean the flocked sponge tool with soap and water and allow to dry.

Step: 7

• Once the golden background paint is dry, add Engine Red and Burnt Carmine to your palette.

Step: 8

• Load the Texture Tool with Engine Red and Burnt Carmine. Still working vertically on the canvas, stroke the darker colors from the bottom of the canvas upwards and from the top to the bottom. The sample shows this darker color mainly on the left side and lower right hand corner. Refer to the project photo for placement of the dark accent colors. When painting the darker colors on top of the golden background, paint lightly so that the background colors show through slightly. Allow to dry.

Transferring the Pattern:

• To transfer the pattern to the dry, prepared surface, loosely tape the pattern at the top two corners of the project surface.

• Slip a sheet of transfer paper between the pattern and the surface.

• Re-trace the pattern lines using a stylus, pencil or ballpoint pen.

Using the fluffy head of the 5010 Texture Tool, coat canvas with Sunflower. Let dry about 20 minutes.

Step: 15

Wrap tool in plastic to keep from drying out, but do not wash. When background has dried, pick up some Yellow Ochre on the tool and pull down from the top right corner. Keep pulling the tool from top down as you move to the left with the strokes.

Wipe tool on paper towel but do not wash.

Step: 17

Pick up Engine Red on the tool and drag it from the top left corner of canvas downward all the way to the bottom. Paint a couple more widths of the tool from top to bottom until red wears off of the tool. Hint: Remember to paint the sides to match as you paint the front of the canvas.

Add some of the red to lower right corner of canvas…Hint: flip the canvas upside down to pull the red from top downward. Don’t add too much red. Let dry.

Ferns:

Turn the canvas right side up and begin to paint the fern branches using the #16 flat brush: Double load with Thicket and Sunflower. Paint stems of the two fern by sliding on the chisel edge of the brush, curving up from the bottom of the canvas as shown.

Step: 21

Paint leaves up both sides of the two stems with double load of Hauser Green Medium and Thicket. Occasionally pick up a touch of red on the brush with the green to add interest to the fern. Refer to picture.

Using bottle tip to apply, outline one edge of each leaf with Thicket, adding a curl at the tip of each one. For a few of the leaves, outline with Hauser Medium instead of Thicket. Finish by adding a few additional curling scrolls using Thicket.

• Many leaves are accented dimensionally painting directly from the bottle, using the applicator tip.

Step: 25

• Paint an accent line along one side of the leaves, painting from the base of the leaf to the top allowing a small curl at the tip of the leaf. The dimensional accents are painted with Thicket and Green Forest alternating.

Step: 26

• Add a few Green Forest dimensional accent stems using the applicator tip of the bottle.
