Project Instructions
Step: 1
Coat entire canvas, sides and all with Yellow Light. Let dry.
Step: 2
Squeeze a very large puddle of Burnt Carmine onto your palette. Pick up on background tool and apply to the canvas in choppy downward strokes. Continue applying Burnt Carmine color, leaving some random patches of yellow base color showing, until entire canvas is covered. Be sure to leave lots of paint texture showing and don’t blend smooth. Let dry.
Step: 3
Paint vase area with Yellow Light using 1” flat brush. Paint bottom ridge of vase with short rounded strokes of Burnt Carmine, then drag a little Burnt Carmine vertically over vase, leaving it streaked.
Step: 4
Double Load 1” flat brush with Kelly Green and Yellow light. Paint many long tulip leaves coming out of the vase opening.
Step: 5
Paint several tulip heads yellow, the rest various shades of red, using #16 flat brush. For the light red tulip, pick up Engine Red on the brush, then dip into a little Yellow Light. To make the red darker for the next red tulip head, dip the same brush without cleaning into Burnt Carmine and stoke petals. Paint tulips varying sizes and colorations referring to picture for placement.
Step: 6
Double load #16 flat brush with Yellow Light and Kelly Green. Slide on the chisel edge to paint stems that join the tulip heads to the foliage area.
