Project Instructions

Prewash T-shirt to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener.

Cover work surface with plastic tablecloth. Lay damp shirt flat on prepared surface. Pull up center of shirt into a tube shape and tightly wrap a rubber band around tube about 3” below tip. Wrap seven more rubber bands round tube, about 1” apart.

Wearing plastic gloves from dye kit, add water to the Red, Blue and Yellow dye bottles to the line indicated on bottles. Replace caps tightly and shake bottles until dye is dissolved.

Squeeze Yellow dye on tip of fabric, Blue in the next rubber banded section and Red in the third section. Repeat pattern as shown, until each section has dye.

Cover shirt with plastic tablecloth to keep damp and let set for 6 to 8 hours or longer for most intense colors. Rinse T-shirt in warm running water until water runs clear, removing rubber bands at this time. Wash separately in a large load of hottest water suitable for T-shirt fabric and a small amount of laundry soap. Dry separately.

Place T-shirt flat on work surface. Insert cardboard piece in between layers of shirt.

Cut apart Sticky Fabric Stencil letters needed to spell “Grateful Dad” then peel backings and place on center of shirt where shown.

Squeeze a puddle of Ebony Soft Fabric Paint onto foil. Using flat end of wedge makeup sponge, dab into paint then dab on shirt within stencils. Let dry and add a second coat if needed. Remove stencils and let dry completely.

Wait 72 hours before washing. Wash in warm water, gentle cycle with mild soap; line dry. Clean up with soap and water. Do not dry clean.

Tips

Keeping shirt in a location that’s room temperature while dyeing helps colors activate to their fullest potential for bold, vibrant results.
