Project Instructions

Pre-wash shirt without fabric softener and leave damp. Lay out flat on work surface covered with disposable plastic surface cover.

Lay out shirt on covered work surface and fold in half lengthwise, front side facing up.

Use chalk pencil to draw a half circle along folded edge of T-shirt, positioning it where you want your moon to be.

Begin pleating your shirt at this chalk line, easing the fabric into a straight line along your chalk line as you pleat. When done pleating, tie tightly with a zip tie.

Lay tied shirt onto protected work surface or pastry cooling rack (if desired).

Mix yellow dye according to package instructions.

Apply half the bottle of yellow dye to center section of tied area.

Mix red dye according to package instructions. Add half bottle of red dye to remaining yellow dye. Shake to create orange color.

Apply orange dye to middle section.

Mix violet dye according to package instructions and apply dye along outer edge by your zip tie.

Let set six to eight hours.

Rinse shirt under cold running water until water runs clear to remove excess dye.

With zip ties still attached, wash shirt in washing machine.

Remove zip ties and dry shirt in dryer.

Download or create desired graphic from computer and print out image in black ink. Use to create screen according to ScreenIt™ instructions.

Once screen is ready to use, slip first shirt onto the foam base of the ScreenIt™ machine.

Using squeegee provided with ScreenIt™, apply Ebony Soft® paint to screen following Screen-It™ instructions.

Immediately remove screen and rinse under cold running water to clean for future use.

Let T-shirt dry.

Tips

Placing tied shirt on a pastry cooling rack while dyeing helps minimize color bleeding.
