Project Instructions

Step: 1

GAUGE
28 sts = 4-inches; 40 rows = 4-inches in Stockinette Stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.


Step: 2

SIZE
Directions are for size 1 year; changes for size 2 years are in parentheses.
To Fit Chest: 18 (22)-inches.
Finished Chest: 21 (25)-inches.


Step: 3

BACK
Cast on 74 (88) sts. Knit 6 rows. Change to Stockinette stitch, beginning with a K row, until 10 (11)-inches from beginning, end by working a Purl row.


Step: 4

Shape Shoulders: Bind off 20 (22) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Place remaining 34 (44) sts on a holder for back neck.


Step: 5

FRONT
Work same as for Back until 8½ (9½ )-inches from beginning, ending by working a Purl row.


Step: 6

Divide for Neck: K23 (26), place remaining sts on holder. Decrease 1 st at neck edge on next 3 (4) Knit rows = 20 (22) sts. Work even until 10 (11)-inches from beginning, end by working a Purl row. Bind off.


Step: 7

Leave center 28 (36) sts on the holder. Join yarn to remaining 23 (26) sts; Knit to end. Decrease 1 st at neck edge on next 3 (4) Knit rows - 20 (22) sts. Work even until 10 (11)-inches from beginning, end by working a Purl row. Bind off.


Step: 8

SLEEVES (Make Two)
Cast on 40 (50) sts. Knit 6 rows. Change to Stockinette stitch, beginning with a Knit row, and work even for 3 rows. Shape sides by inc 1 st at each end of next row, then every 4th row until there are 64 (74) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 7 (8)-inches from beginning. Bind off.


Step: 9

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Mark front and back 4½ (5¼)-inches down from shoulder seams. Place center of sleeve top at shoulder seam and sew in place between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.


Step: 10

Rolled Collar: With right side facing and circular needle, Knit across 34 (44) sts from back neck holder, pick up and Knit 10 (12) sts down left front, Knit across 28 (36) sts from front neck holder, and pick up and Knit 10 (12) sts up right front - 82 (104) sts. Place marker on needle and join to work in the round. Knit every round until collar measures 1½ (2)-inches. Bind off LOOSELY.
