Material List

  • DecoArt® Acrylic Paint – Pine Cone Brown, Sprout Green, Cloud White, Wrought Iron Black, Larkspur Blue, Marigold, Sweet Pea, Deep Buttercup and Butternut
  • Terra Cotta Pot, 8"
  • DecoArt® Acrylic Paint – Pine Cone Brown, Sprout Green, Cloud White, Wrought Iron Black, Larkspur Blue, Marigold, Sweet Pea, Deep Buttercup and Butternut Terra Cotta Pot, 8" Paintbrushes – 1" Oval Wash, ¾" Flat, #8 Flat, #4 Flat, ¾" Angle and 18/0 Liner
  • Paper Towels
  • Palette Paper (or Paper Plate)
  • Transfer Paper (Light and Dark)
  • Tracing Paper

Project Instructions

Note: Please allow paint to dry between applications.

Wipe pot clean with dry paper towel to remove any dust or debris.

Using #1 oval wash brush, paint entire pot Larkspur Blue.

Trace design onto pot.

Paint beehive Deep Buttercup using ¾" flat brush.

Using ¾" angle brush, float shade of Butternut underneath each section of beehive.

Honeybee bodies and flower centers are Marigold. Flower petals and bee wings are painted Cloud White. Shade between petals with Deep Buttercup. Add lines on petals with liner brush and Butternut.

Float shade on bottom of each flower center using Pine Cone Brown.

Paint holes in hive, bee heads, stripes, and antennae Wrought Iron Black.

Paint leaves Sweet Pea. Shade leaves and paint stems with Sprout Green.

Paint lettering and outline all elements with Wrought Iron Black; highlight holes in beehive with White Cloud.

Tips

Be sure to paint the inside of the pot if you plan to use as a planter.
