That first semester at college can be tough. Between living in a new place, making new friends, and leaving home, a lot of freshmen get homesick! This mobile, with room for lots of photos, can help. Print out 4x4 pics and insert them into the little hanging crocheted frames. Various sizes of pompoms in matching yarn add a retro-mod look.

- 10" wooden embroidery hoop (inner hoop only)
- 4x4" squares of cardboard or plastic canvas (for frame lining)
- Pompom makers (to make small and medium sized pompoms)
- Craft glue
Frame (Make as many as needed)
Step 1: With yarn A and an E hook, ch 19.
Step 2: Row 1:Sc into 2nd ch from hook and next 17 chs (18 sts)
Step 3: Rows 2-19: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st across (18 sts)
Step 4: Row 20: Ch 1, turn, sc into BLO of each st (18 sts)
Step 5: Rows 21-22: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st across (18 sts)
Step 6: Row 23-32: Ch 1, turn, sc into next 3 sts (3 sts)
Step 7: Row 33: Ch 1, turn, sc into next 3 sts, ch 15 sts (18 sts)
Step 8: Rows 34-35: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st across (18 sts)
Step 9: Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Step 10: Join yarn A at Row 22 with a sc.
Step 11: Row 23: Sc into next 2 sts (3 sts)
Step 12: Rows 24-32: Ch 1, turn, sc into next 3 sts (3 sts)
Step 13: Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Step 14: Sew frame together at inside edge to form the front of the frame. Stitch top and bottom edges together, leaving side open (Rows 1 and 32).
Step 15: Tie along strand of matching yarn to the center of the top edge and tie to the hoop, spacing frames evenly at differing lengths. Trim tails.
Pompoms (Make as many as you want)
Step 1: Use pompom makers to make pompoms, leaving the middle strand used for tying the pompom together very long
Step 2: Tie pompoms to the hoop, spacing between frames at varying lengths. Trim tails.
Hoop Cover (Make one)
Step 1: With yarn A and a D hook, ch 170
Step 2: Row 1: Sc into 2nd ch from hook and next 168 chs (169 sts)
Step 3: Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st.
Step 4: Fasten off and weave in ends. Set aside.
Step 1: Cut 3 long strands of yarn and loop each over hoop evenly spaced, joining in the middle
Step 2: Knot the strands together, fold ends down, and knot again, forming a loop for hanging.
Step 3: Working quickly, apply craft glue to hoop and apply hoop cover. Press gently into place.
Step 4: Insert cardboard squares into each frame, and insert photograph over the square.

Finished frames should be slightly larger than 4"x4" to fit the printed photographs, as commonly available from online photo printers. As you begin working the frames, check measurements and adjust hook size if necessary to make the correct size frame.
