Row 1: ch 22. Turn.
Row 2: sc in 2nd ch and in each ch across. Turn.
Row 3: ch 1, sc in 1st sc through back loop and in each st across to end. Turn.
Row 4-58: Repeat row 3.
Row 59: Put edges together (row 1 & row 58), sc together. Do not tie off.
Turn the tube vertically so that the openings are at the top and bottom.
Row 1: sc around edge of tube to end, (using the tube seam as beginning/end).
Row 2: sc in back of loop once around to the end, (this helps with the fold/bend).
Rows 3-4: sc to end.
Rows 5-8: sc in first 3 stitches, dec., sc 3 stitches, dec.; repeat.
Row 9-center: sc until center. Tie off. Tuck inside cupcake.
To Stiffen Cupcake Cup:
Follow directions for fabric stray stiffener as noted on can. (I cut a 5" circle from the poster board for the inside bottom, then cut a 7" wide strip the length of the poster board. I put that inside for wall support and stuffed it with newspaper for temporary stuffing to hold the cup up, and to add some stretch to it. I sprayed 3 coats, drying between coats on the outside. I threw out the newspaper and bottom circle, then set aside the poster board wall support and sprayed the inside 3 times. Once dried, I put the wall support back in and stuffed with Poly-fil® to the top.
Row 1: ch 150. Turn.
Row 2: Sc in 2nd ch and in each ch across. Turn.
Row 3: ch 1, sc in 1st sc, sc to end. Turn.
Rows 4-8: Repeat row 3.
(Note: since this long strip curls, spray with stiffener to flatten. Only one coat is needed.)
Mark off the circumference of the cupcake top with the long strip and put the back sides together, then sc together all the way to the top. Tie off and tuck tail in cupcake.
Stuff swirl with Poly-fil® to the peak.
To Attach Swirl to Cupcake Cup:
Using the icing swirl color, sc swirl to cupcake cup starting at back of cup seam. Sc third row from end of the swirl, to the top of the cupcake cup. Since this will curl the edge up, thread tapestry needle with a yard of the icing swirl color. Baste the overhang edge of the swirl to the cup all around. (Note: do no pull it tight. Stitch each “peak” of the cup.) Tie off & tuck inside cup.
To Make the Swirl Look Like a Swirl:
Thread tapestry needle with white yarn (about a yard). Starting from back, baste along the swirl seam and lightly tighten as you go. End about 2" from top. Tie off, but do not cut. Insert hook in bottom of cup and squish down swirl so hook is exposed at top of swirl (where you ended basting). Pull white yarn through entire cupcake and tie off on bottom. Tuck into cup.
