The instructions are written for smaller size. If changes are necessary for larger size the instructions will be written thus ( ).
With A cast on 42 (46) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows twice more, inc 2 sts evenly across last row. 44 (48) sts.
Proceed in stocking st for 2 rows. Break A.
With B, cont in stocking st until work from beg measures 4 (5)” [10 (12.5) cm], ending with a purl row.
Shape top: 1st row: (RS). K2 (0). (K2tog. K4) 7 (8) times. 37 (40) sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K2 (0). (K2tog. K3) 7 (8) times. 30 (32) sts.
5th row: K2 (0). (K2tog. K2) 7 (8) times. 23 (24) sts.
7th row: K2 (0). (K2tog. K1) 7 (8) times. 16 sts.
9th row: (K2tog) 8 times. 8 sts. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end tightly through rem sts. Fasten securely. Sew back seam.
Pom-pom: Wind A around 4 fingers 60 times. Tie tightly in the middle and leave a long end for attaching to Hat. Cut through both sides of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape. Attach to Hat.
