Project Instructions
Step: 1
Approximate Size of Stitched Design: 6 1/8-inches w x 3 5/8-inches h. Stitch Count: 86w x 51h.
Step: 2
One 8-inch x 10-inch piece of DMC Needlework Fabric is required for floral design. If desired, a larger piece may be used.
Step: 3
It is easier to work with shorter lengths of embroidery floss. Pull loose end of desired floss, measure an 18-inch length and cut.
Step: 4
Floss is made up of six strands. Use two strands at a time for cross-stitches and French knots and one strand for backstitches.
Step: 5
To separate strands, grasp one end of an 18-inch piece of floss between two fingers and pull out one or two strands, then thread needle.
Step: 6
To centralize design, fold fabric in half horizontally and pinch it to make a light crease. Open, then fold it in half vertically and make another pinch. Where the two creases cross is center.
Step: 7
Begin stitching at center, or count out number of squares from center of Design Chart to desired starting point. Then count same number of squares from center of fabric to locate preferred starting point.
Step: 8
To begin, pass threaded needle through fabric from front down an inch from desired starting point. Leave an inch of floss off to side on top of fabric. Come up from back in exact square selected as starting point. Then go down to complete first cross-stitch. Continue stitching about four or five full stitches then pull short end that has been resting on top of fabric through from back and snip it off close to fabric. Never knot floss. It is important that when cross-stitching, all X's are crossed in same direction. Top thread of X should always slant in same direction.
Step: 9
Follow chart and color key to stitch entire design.
