4 sts + 4 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with larger needles and 1 strand A and 2 strands B held tog. Be sure to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

With larger needles and 1 strand A and 2 strands B held tog, cast on 22 (24, 26) sts. Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 13 (14, 15) in. [33 (35.5, 38) cm] from beg.

Shape Armhole - Bind off 2 (3, 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work even until piece measures 22 (23, 24) in. [56 (58.5, 61) cm]. Bind off.

With larger needles and 1 strand A and 2 strands B held tog, cast on 11 (13, 16) sts. Work in St st until piece measures 13 (14, 15) in. [33 (35.5, 38) cm] from beg; end with a WS row.

Shape Armhole - Bind off 2 (3, 4) sts at armhole edge. Work even until piece measures 19 (20, 21) in. [48.5 (51, 53.5) cm] from beg, end with a RS row.

Shape Neck - Bind off 3 (3, 4) sts at neck edge. Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 1 (2, 2) time(s). Work even until piece measures 22 (23, 24) in. [56 (58.5, 61) cm]. Bind off.

Work same as Left Front, reversing all shaping.

Next Row (RS): K to last st, m1, k1 - 13 sts.

Work even until piece measures 12 in. [30.5 cm], end with a WS row.

Next Row (RS): Work to last 2 sts, k2tog - 12 sts.

Work even until piece measures 14 in. [35.5 cm], end with a WS row.

Next Row (RS): K to last st, m1, k1 - 13 sts.

Work even until piece measures 21 in. [53.5 cm], end with a WS row.

Next Row (RS): Work to last 2 sts, k2tog - 12 sts.

Work even until piece measures 27 in. [68.5 cm]. Bind off.


Step: 29

Fold Hood in half and sew the shaped sides tog, forming back of Hood. From RS, with smaller needles and 3 strands A held tog, pick up and k 24 sts around front edge of Hood and knit 1 row. Bind off.

Sew shoulder and side seams. Sew Hood to neck edge of Vest. From RS, with smaller needles and 3 strands of A held tog, pick up and k 17 (18, 19) sts down Left Front edge and knit 1 row. Bind off. From RS, with smaller needles and 3 strands of A held tog, pick up and knit 17 (18, 19) sts up Right Front edge and knit 1 row. Bind off. Weave in ends. With sewing needle and thread, sew in zipper.
