Project Instructions

Finished Size:
34 inches x 54 inches [86.5 x 137cm], not including fringe.

Gauge:
4 stitches = 4-inches [10cm] in Stockinette stitch (knit on right side rows, purl on wrong side rows) with 4 strands of yarn held together.

Notes:
Gauge may vary throughout the knitting and is not crucial to this project.

When creating fringe using Homespun, please note that because of the texture of the yarn, the fringe will fray when cut. If you prefer a non-frayed look, you can knot the ends, use hairspray or fray check.

You may choose to use the same color yarn throughout or create a variegated effect by using 4 different colors of yarn (2 skeins each), referred to below as A, B, C and D.  The total amount of yarn required is the same -- 8 skeins.

Throw:

With 4 strands of yarn held together (1 strand each of A, B, C and D if you choose 4 different colors), cast on 34 stitches.

Row 1 (right side): Knit.

Row 2: Purl.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 54 in. [137cm] from beginning. Bind off.

Finishing:
Weave in ends.

Fringe:
Cut 272 strands of yarn (68 strands each of A, B, C and D if you choose 4 different colors), with each strand about 20 in. [52cm] long.

Step 1:  To complete the first fringe, hold 4 strands together (one strand of each color if you choose 4 different colors) and fold in half.

Step 2:  Use crochet hook to draw fold through edge of afghan, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten.

Step 3:  Continue to make one fringe in each stitch along first and last rows of afghan. Trim fringe ends evenly.
