Sizes
To fit chest measurement: 6 (12-18) mos, 17 (18-20) ins [43 (45.5-51) cm].
Finished chest: 19 (20-23) ins [48 (51-58.5) cm].

16 hdc and 11 rows = 4 ins [10cm].

Step: 5

Beg at Back, with MC, ch 43 (45-51).


Step: 6

1st row: (RS). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each ch across. Turn. 41 (43-49) hdc.


Step: 7

2nd row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each hdc to end of row. Turn.


Step: 8

Rep last row until work from beg measures 6H (7-8) ins [16.5 (18-20.5) cm], ending with a WS row.


Step: 9

Next 2 rows: Ch 15 (17-19). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each of next 12 (14-16) ch. 1 hdc in each hdc to end of row. Turn. 67 (73-83) hdc at end of 2nd row.


Step: 10

Work 12 (12-14) rows even.


Step: 11

Shape Neck and Divide Fronts
Next row: (RS). Ch 2. 1 hdc in each of next 24 (27-31) hdc. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.


Step: 12

Next row: Ch 12 (12-13). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each of next 9 (9-10) ch. 1 hdc in each hdc to end of row. Turn. 34 (37-42) hdc.


Step: 13

Work 11 (11-13) rows even on these 34 (37-42) hdc for right front.


Step: 14

Next row: (WS). Ch 2. 1 hdc in each of next 21 (22-25) hdc. Place a marker on last st. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.


Step: 15

Cont even on last 21 (22-25) hdc until work from marker measures 6H (7-8) ins [16.5 (18-20.5) cm], ending with a WS row. Fasten off.


Step: 16

With RS facing, miss 19 (19-21) hdc at center back. Join MC with sl st to next hdc. Ch 12 (12-13). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each of next 9 (9-10) ch. 1 hdc in same sp as first sl st. 1 hdc in each hdc to end of row. 34 (37-42) hdc. Turn.


Step: 17

Work to correspond to right front, reversing all shapings.


Step: 18

Finishing: Sew side and sleeve seams.


Step: 19

Sleeve edging: 1st rnd: (RS). Join A with sl st at sleeve seam and work sc evenly around sleeve edge. Join with sl st to first sc.


Step: 20

2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right instead of right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Step: 21

Outer Edging
1st rnd: (RS). Join A with sl st at left side seam and work sc evenly around outer edge, working 3 sc in corners. Join with sl st to first sc.


Step: 22

2nd rnd: Work as for sleeve edging.


Step: 23

Fold back lapels as shown. Sew on buttons.

Tips

Don’t forget to do a tension swatch 16hdc and 11 rows should be 4 inches square. This will insure the garment will be the correct size when you are finished.
