Fernando Dasilva is a jewelry designer, published author, instructor, and an avid chef. Mr. Dasilva stepped into the jewelry world through pearl knotting which he offered as an outside contractor for local jewelers in New Mexico. Two years later his first jewelry line was designed and his work was featured on Women’s Wear Daily-Dallas where he was quoted as “designer to watch”. Fernando’s talent for flair and drama have caught the eyes of many arts and crafts publications, like Bead Style, Bead Design Studio, Step by Step, Stringing Jewelry among others. His first international commissioned work was published on the Create Your Style with Swarovski Elements book “Design Expressions from Brazil & Russia”, Dasilva himself a Brazilian born who brings to his designs elements easily identified with such vibrant, edgy and unique cultural background.

Making individual beaded strands
a- Cut a 2ft piece of beading wire. String eight seed beads onto wire placing it on its center and then back with one end of wire through the eighth bead on the opposite direction, going back through all the beads to reinforce the loop.
b- String one seed bead onto both ends of beading wire, and then add one 4mm hyacinth bicone followed by one seed bead onto each end of wire.
c- Add eight more hyacinth beads, followed by twelve 4mm crystal copper plus ten crystal red magma on same fashion - not forgetting to use seed beads as spacers in between. Finish this beaded combo adding two hyacinths followed by two crystal red magma bicones.
d. String four seed beads onto each end of wire.Add one crimp tube onto one end of beading wire going back through the crimp and four of the seed beads on the opposite direction. Repeat the same with the opposite seed beads, and then pull both ends tight and then crimp it to secure loop. Trim excess beading wire. Make one more section alike and set them aside.
e- From now on, use similar techniques to create beaded sections using the following patterns:
1- Four beaded sections with:
8 hyacinth + 12 crystal copper + 16 crystal red magma
2- Two beaded sections with:
10 hyacinth + 12 crystal copper + 16 crystal red magma
f - Use similar stringing techniques to create following patterns using 4mm and 6mm bicone beads together.
1- Two beaded sections with:
7 crystal red magma + 2 seed beads + crystal red magma + 4 light smoked topaz, + red magma + 4 smoked topaz + 4 crystal bronze shade + red magma + 4 crystal bronze shade + red magma +6 six red magma.
2- Three beaded sections like the previous one,just using 6 light smoke topaz + 10 crystal bronze shade.
Punching holes on metal sheets
Use pictures for guidance.
Brass and gunmetal sheets are over layered on top of copper sheet slightly moved side ways. Sheets will be cold connected (using jump rings on this case) on strategic holes punched to fit jump ring ‘s gauge.
Mark one dot 1-inch away from one of the corners of metal sheet and then punch a hole on area marked.
Mark a second dot near to the bottom of metal sheet ¼- inch away from the corner directly across form the area where first hole was previously made.
Continue carefully placing hole and then use8mm jump rings to connect sheets together. Copper sheet should be placed in the middle atop brass and gunmetal sheets on each side.
Layering beaded sections on top of metal sheets.
Make 3 extras holes on metal copper sheet to be used to hold beaded sections.
Once the 3 sheets are layered together and held by jump rings, begging creating lay out to place beaded sections created with combo of 4mm and 6mm crystal beads on top of it.
Punch four extra holes along both edges of gunmetal and brass metal sheets (on each horizontal edge of sheets, since beaded sections will be hold on both ends). For better accuracy place beaded sections on top of sheets before holes are punched.
Creating back strands of necklace
Randomly use only the following crystal beads:
4mm crystal red magma,
6mm jet AB
6mm crystal bronze shade
6mm round crystal AB
Cut two 2 ½ ft pieces of beading wire, string a crimp tube onto and then secure it in place using crimp tool. Crimp ends of both wires together.
Cover crimp using one gold-plated crimp cover.
String one curved spacer tube onto the wire,followed by a group of 3 crystal beads randomly chosen, and then repeat on same fashion until 9 spacer tubes are strung on. Finish end on same fashion done in the beginning.
Create 5 more strands like these and set aside.
Creating twisted fringe
Cut 1 ft of flat chocolate brown aluminum wire and using the coiling gismo tool, coil up to 5 inches length.
Cut 1ft of gold-plated German style wire and coil it on top of flat-coiled section made on previous step. Use the gismo base just to hold tip of the rod within the hole and use your thumb to hold wire firm adding some tension to each turn. Make sure round wire sits on top of the space between each turn of the flat wire. Create 7 and set them aside.
Cut 1 ft of copper flat aluminum wire to create a coiled section on same fashion made on previous step.
Cut 1 ft of 20 gauge gunmetal German style wire and coil it on top of copper piece. Make 5 more of those and set aside.
Examples of finished coiled sections on both colors.
Cut a piece of gold-plated German style wire,string onto one copper coiled section and create double link, turning each coiled section onto connectors.
Use your fingers to curve them onto “s’ shape sections. Make 8 and set them aside. Avoid pliers to make those, otherwise you will scratch the coiled sections.
Repeat third step to make similar double links using gold-plated coiled section combined with gunmetal German style wire. Make 7 of those and set them aside.
Cut a 9” piece of German style wire and make a wrapped loop 1” away from one of the ends. Trim excess wire, and then add crystal beads as follow: crystal red magma + round crystal AB + crystal bronze shade.
Make another loop on the opposite end and set aside. Make 5 more of those.
Cut 1’ piece of copper coiled section, string onto a fancy head pin and make a loop on top of it. Trim excess wire. Open a8mm jump, add crystal AB star pendant and close jump ring. Make 5 more of those and set aside.
Begin connecting the ‘s’ shape coiled section to bottom of metallic pendant of necklace. Attach one end to already added jump ring that was used to hold some of the beaded section - be gentle opening and closing jump ring. Add a crystal AB star pendant to the bottom of each coiled links.
Use jump rings to add a section of dangles (made with fancy head pins) between the bottom of beaded sections layered on top of metal sheets and coiled sections. Add 6 of them evenly spaced along the front portion of necklace – “the ‘bib’ area”.
Cut 1ft of gunmetal German style wire, wrap around circle toggle twice, and then begin add groups of 3 alternated by groups of three crystal bicones to ornate it.
Create double link using a 1’ of any of the coiled section left and use it to attach toggle to structure of necklace. Repeat other half of toggle on some fashion.
14. Open a 8mm jump ring to attach the strands of beads made on step followed by attachment of both side of toggle as well.

Use a metal shear to make the sharp edges of metal sheets round…smooth the corners using sanding paper.
