Material List

  • FolkArt® Paints- Berry Wine, Wicker White, Thicket, Dioxazine Purple (Artists’ Pigment), Medium Yellow (Artists’ Pigment) and Floating Medium
  • FolkArt® HD™ ¾” Flat Brush, 5/8” Angular Brush, #12 Flat and #6 Flat
  • FolkArt® One Stroke™ Brush Caddy and 1220 Double Loader
  • Wooden Box
  • Fine Grade Sandpaper
  • Paper Towels
  • Tack Cloth
 

Project Instructions

Step: 1

You may wish to follow the detailed instructions and view the projects and worksheets available in the One Stroke books, including 9836, Roses of All Kinds.

Surface Preparation:


Step: 3

Sand any rough areas using a fine grade sandpaper.


Step: 4

Wipe away any excess dust using a tack cloth or moistened paper towel.


Step: 5

Background:

Basecoat the box with Fresh Foliage and allow to dry.


Step: 7

Moisten a sea sponge with water and dip sponge into Wicker White paint. Sponge paint on all sides and the outside edge of the top, leaving a circle of Fresh Foliage open.

Painting Instructions:

Please use the patterns following for practicing the strokes. These will make painting the roses and leaves very easy!

Step: 11

Double load the ¾” Flat brush with Berry Wine and Wicker White. Start at the left bottom corner, pull and ‘wiggle’ the brush up and down to the bottom right corner (as shown on the pattern).

Step: 13

While paint is still wet, start the second petal, overlapping the first. Then, add the third petal.


Step: 14

Add the rose bud to the center of the rose.

Add the filler petals, using 5/8” angular brush.

Step: 17

The steps for painting the leaves are very similar for painting the rose petals.


Step: 18

Double load the ¾” Flat brush with Thicket, Wicker White and Dioxazine Purple. Start at the top and pull down to the bottom, using the ‘wiggle’ stroke.


Step: 19

Add Stems, Flipped leaves and small leaves as desired.


Tips

Change the colors of the background or the flowers to coordinate with Mom’s bedroom or bath.
