Project Instructions

Step: 1

Getting Started: Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Knead clay for 2 minutes. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for 15 minutes per ¼-inch (6mm) of thickness. Do not use in microwave oven. Do not exceed the above temperatures or recommended baking time. Baking should be completed by an adult. Wash hands after use.

Step: 2

Cut away the top and one of the side panels of the box so you have a bottom, a back panel, and two side panels.

Step: 3

Paint the inside walls of the box blue.

Step: 4

Paint the bottom of the box with glue, then sprinkle with fine decorator sand.

Step: 5

Octopus Head
For the head make one large Violet ball, two small White ovals, and several small Just Orange balls.

Step: 6

Press the two White ovals onto the ball for the eyes. Add tiny black beads (or tiny balls of Black clay) onto the ovals for the pupils. Press the Just Orange balls on top of the head for spots. Use the purple tool with the pointed end to poke a hole for the Octopus’s mouth. Set aside.

Step: 7

Octopus Tentacles
Roll out six long Violet snakes and six Just Orange snakes that are the same length but thinner around.

Step: 8

Press Just Orange snakes onto the Violet snakes, roll slightly, and with a toothpick poke into Just Orange part of tentacles.

Step: 9

Assemble tentacles to the bottom of the head.

Step: 10

Two Fish
Make one Yellow and one Violet oval and flatten on your work surface.

Step: 11

Make three thin snakes out of Just Orange and three out of Blue. Attach the Just Orange snakes to the Violet body and the Blue snakes to the Yellow body, roll in slightly.

Step: 12

Make Blue fins and Just Orange fins and attach to the corresponding bodies of the fish. Use a toothpick to press lines into fins.

Step: 13

Using purple tool make a mouth. Add tiny black beads (or tiny balls of Black clay) for the eyes.

Step: 14

Seaweed and Rocks
Make several Emerald snakes, flatten and slightly press together at bottom for seaweed.

Step: 15

Make at least two Tan rocks. Press ends of seaweed into the rocks. (Note: When baking, bake lying down.)

Step: 16

Roll out a sheet of Just Orange clay and cut out a star.

Step: 17

Give star a mouth, Red tongue, eyes and Yellow spots.

Step: 18

Make a Blue ball and press down on your work surface. Roll out three Blue snakes, attach as shown.

Step: 19

Make two pincers, attach to body with legs.

Step: 20

Make two tiny White balls for eyes, attach to the head, then press tiny black beads or tiny balls of Black clay into them.

Step: 21

Decorate with Just Orange spots.

Step: 22

Sea Turtle
Make one Purple ball and press down onto work surface. Make five Emerald balls. Flatten one for bottom of turtle and shape the rest into fins.

Step: 23

Make one slightly bigger Emerald ball and shape into a club for the head.

Step: 24

Attach fins and head to the flattened piece of Emerald, which is the bottom of the shell. Press the flattened piece of Purple on top of the fins for the top of the shell.

Step: 25

Give turtle a face, with Yellow nose, Red tongue and tiny Black beads or tiny balls of Black clay for eyes. Finish by decorating shell with Just Orange and Yellow spots.

Step: 26

Treasure Chest
Make a large Chocolate ball and shape into a rectangular chest with a rounded top. .Cut off the top and set aside. Use a toothpick to press lines into chest.

Step: 27

Make several little balls of Gold clay and flatten for the coins, make the Gold lock as shown. Roll several small balls of White clay for the pearl necklace.

Step: 28

Position the coins and pearls onto the larger portion (bottom) of the box. Place the smaller piece you cut off earlier on top of the coins and pearls for the lid. Don’t press it down all the way. Leave the lid propped up at the front edge so you can see the coins and pearls.

Step: 29

Add the lock and set to the side.

Step: 30

Make several small balls of Tan, Vanilla Crème, and White.

Step: 31

For some shells make clubs and twist as shown.

Step: 32

For oyster and other shells, flatten balls, slightly press over eraser part of pencil and press lines into top using a toothpick. Set to the side. Add a ball of White clay for the pearl.

Step: 33

When you have all the pieces made bake according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Let cool completely before removing from the baking pan. Glue creatures into place as shown.


Use photo as a guide and follow manufacturer’s instructions for all products used.

Make sure to clean hands and tools before starting your project. Start with lighter colors and work your way down to darker colors, to avoid discoloring of the clay.
