Project Instructions

How To Create a Packing Tape Transfer Canvas Art

Make a black and white copy of the photo of your choice using a laser or toner-based printer.

Color copy using Copic® markers as desired.

Place strips of packing tape side by side over photo, until completely covered.

Mist the back of the photo that has been adhered to the packing tape.

Starting at the corner, gently roll the paper off of the tape until all paper has been removed from entire surface.

Prepare canvas background as desired (see Trees Packing Tape Transfer Art Piece or The Guys Packing Tape Transfer Art Piece for inspiration).

Paint gel medium onto canvas in area where packing tape transfer is desired and onto the back of the packing tape transfer.

Using a brayer, (or an old credit card), burnish the packing transfer onto your canvas.

Paint front and sides of canvas Burnt Umber. Let dry.

Dip paintbrush in retarder and desired paint and patchwork color on canvas as desired, one color and area at a time.

While paint is still wet, scratch message onto canvas with stylus.

Once canvas is prepared as desired, let dry.

Paint front and sides of canvas Burnt Umber. Let dry.

Tear scrapbook pages into large sections and attach to canvas with gel medium. To do this, apply gel medium to canvas and place paper pieces onto it. Add a top coat of gel medium over paper pieces. Let dry.

Once canvas is covered as desired, follow Steps 7-8 for How To Create a Packing Tape Transfer Canvas Art (above) to complete art piece.

Paint corners to add a finished look.
