Project Instructions

Day 1
Step 1 Cover a flat surface with newspaper.
Step 2 Mix about ¼ cup of glue and a small amount of water in a medium-sized bowl. The mixture should be runny.
Step 3 Tear the newspaper into small strips.
Step 4 Blow up a round balloon.
Step 5 Dip the strips of newspaper into the glue mixture. Cover the balloon entirely with wet strips. Smooth out any bumps or bubbles with your fingers. Allow the balloon to dry overnight.

Day 2
Step 1 Create a new batch of the glue and water mixture.
Step 2 Tear colored tissue paper—any color you choose—into small strips.
Step 3 Use a paintbrush or sponge to paint the glue mixture over the tissue paper, causing it to stick to the balloon. Cover the balloon entirely with tissue paper.
Step 4 Allow the balloon to dry overnight.

Day 3
Step 1 Decorate the balloon to look like your favorite animal using wiggle eyes, construction paper and chenille stems to add features such as eyes, ears, and whiskers.
Step 2 Optional: Accent with permanent markers.

Time-Saving Hints:
•Place the blown-up balloon -- tied end down -- in a small bowl. The bowl will hold the balloon steady while you work.
After dipping each strip of newspaper into the glue mixture, run it between two of your fingers to remove the excess mixture.
