ABBREVIATIONS

ch = chain

STITCH EXPLANATION

rev sc (reverse single crochet) Single crochet worked from left to right (right to left, if left-handed). Insert hook into next stitch to the right (left), under loop on hook, and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.

NOTE

To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over; yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st.

AFGHAN

Square 1

With D, ch 10.

Row 1 (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 9 sts at the end of this row.

Rows 2-9: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, change to B in last st of last row.

Note: In the following rows, sc are worked across two edges of the Square (across the last row of sts and then down one side edge).

Row 10 (RS): Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across to last st, 3 sc in last st (corner made); working in ends of rows, 8 sc evenly across side of Square – 19 sts at the end of this row.

Row 11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across to center sc of 3-sc corner, 3 sc in corner sc, sc in each st across –21 sts at the end of this row.

Rows 12 and 13: Rep Row 11, change to C in last st of last row – 25 sts at the end of Row 13.

Rows 14 and 15: Rep Row 11, change to A in last st of last row – 29 sts at the end of Row 15.

Rows 16-18: Rep Row 11 – 35 sts at the end of Row 18.

Fasten off.

Blocks

Sew Squares together into blocks following Assembly Diagram, as follows: Squares 1-4 for Block A, Squares 5-8 for Block B, Squares 9-12 for Block C, Squares 13-16 for Block D, Squares 17-20 for Block E, Squares 21-24 for Block F, Squares 25-28 for Block G, Squares 29-32 for Block H, and Squares 33-36 for Block I.

Assembly

Note: Blocks are joined from RS of work.

Hold Blocks A and B with WS together.

Row 1: Using color to match edge of one of the Blocks and working through both thicknesses, join yarn with sl st in one corner, sl st in each st across edge to join Blocks. Fasten off.

Using colors to match edge of one of the blocks and following Assembly Diagram, continue joining remaining blocks into strips, then join strips to make Throw.

Edging

Rnd 1: From RS, join E with sl st in any corner of Throw, work sc evenly spaced around, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc at each corner; join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 3 (Optional): Ch 1, rev sc in each sc around, (work only 1 rev sc in each corner sc). Fasten off.

Weave in ends.
