Project Instructions

Paint canvas black. Let dry.
 

Cut foam sheets into ½" strips. Cut strips into ½" squares. Set aside.
 

Rub white chalk on the back of the paper with pattern or design.
 

Lay chalk-sided paper onto the black canvas. Trace the pattern or design with a pencil. This will transfer the image onto the black canvas. Trace over the chalk drawing with a pencil so your pattern or design will be more permanent.
 

Begin to stick the foam squares to the board following the pattern sections. You will need to trim some foam squares to fit the corners and curves. Use photo as a guide.

Cook Children’s Expert: This activity involves the cognitive skills of attention, problem solving and sequencing. It also uses the fine motor skills of motor planning and hand-eye coordination. The most important skill this activity promotes is visual/spatial capability, especially when designing a unique pattern.
