Project Instructions

Step: 1

Getting Started: Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Knead clay for 2 minutes. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275º F (130º C) for 15 minutes per ¼-inch (6mm) of thickness. Do not use in microwave oven. Do not exceed the above temperatures or recommended baking time. Baking should be completed by an adult. Wash hands after use.

Step: 2

With foam brush or finger, spread thin layer of white glue on top, sides and inside edge of frame. Allow to dry.

Step: 3

Condition and mix equal parts of Brown and Orange to make “rust” colored clay. Condition and mix equal parts of Black and Brown to make “dark brown” clay.

Step: 4

Condition the Beige clay. Make small Beige, rust and dark brown balls. Press balls, in alternating colors, directly onto the frame. Make sure to cover the front of the frame along with the inside edge and around the sides.

Step: 5

Spray texture maker with water. Press the texture plate down onto the balls of clay so they flatten against the frame and the texture is left on the clay. Repeat this all over the surface of the frame; make sure to spray the texture plate with water each time you are going to press it onto the clay. Trim excess clay from edges.

Step: 6

Bake according to the instructions above. Allow to cool completely.

Step: 7

With dry paintbrush, pick up a small amount of metallic gold paint and brush raised areas of surface. Repeat until all raised surfaces are painted. Allow to dry completely.

Tips

Use photo as a guide and follow manufacturer’s instructions for all products used.

Make sure to clean hands and tools before starting your project. Start with lighter colors and work your way down to darker colors, to avoid discoloring of the clay.
